Gerard William “Jerry” Hoole, 86, a resident of Midland City, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at his residence.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Pinckard Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Charles Goldsmith officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Flowers are being accepted.
Mr. Hoole was born May 25, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York and lived the early years of his life there. He served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy where he received several medals of commendation, retiring as Sergeant First Class. He resided in Dothan and Ashford before moving to Pinckard where he lived the remainder of his life. Mr. Hoole was employed with Farley Nuclear Plant for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He loved his grandchildren and it always broke his heart if they ever got in trouble. They held a special place in his heart.
Mr. Hoole is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Sherry Hoole, several siblings, and a step-daughter, Tracey Fortune.
Survivors include an adopted daughter, Harlie Hammonds (D.J.) of Midland City; five step-children, Melissa Wall (Bob) of Clanton, Keith Marsh (Janice) of Clanton, Lori Summerlin (Allen Metcalf) of Columbia, Chris Marsh (Bertha) of Ashford and Kyle Marsh of Millbrook; two children, Karen Lynn of Slocomb and Gary Hoole of Dothan; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Allen Metcalf, Chris Marsh, D.J. Hammonds, Justin Hartzog, Jordon Hartzog and Keith Marsh.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care given to their loved one.
