Gerry Ann Rice, 81, of Ashford, died Monday, January 22, 2018 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center following a short illness.


Born in Eufaula, Alabama on October 30, 1936 to Lucy Bowman Horsley and Charles Homer Horsley, Gerry was raised by her mother and her beloved step-father, Ernest Sanderson. A 1955 graduate of Eufaula High School, she was a homemaker and worked as local store clerk and secretary. She was the librarian for the Houston County Library Branch facility in Ashford until her retirement. She was a life-long member of the Ashford First Assembly of God Church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Association for the Assemblies of God.


She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Billy E. Rice in 2015.


Survivors include son, Ken Rice (Kay) of Cowarts, AL; daughters Marcia Jenkins (Don) of Hampton, NH and Ursula Bryant (Danny) of Brundidge, AL; brothers, Sandy Sanderson (Caroline) of Headland, AL, James Sanderson (JoAnne) of Baker Hill, AL; sister, Sarah Parrish of Ashford, AL; five grandchildren: Jennifer Adams, Aaron Rice, Adam Jenkins, Thomas Bryant, and Lauren Bryant; and three great grandchildren: Christian Adams, Sarah Adams and Blake Adams.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Clint Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 10:45 am prior to the service in the Chapel. Burial will follow at Ashford City Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing.
