Gina Brown, born Regina Lynn Brasher, was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Robbie Virginia Wilson and Ronald Brasher on December 10, 1963. When Gina was about 2 years old, her family moved to Texas but returned to Alabama when she was in her teens. At 15, Gina got her first job and developed an extraordinary work ethic that she would continue for the rest of her life. When she was 19, she became a wife and soon after became a mother. Everyone who knew her knew that her son was a star in her eyes, and she was extremely proud of her “Lil Lonnie”. After the passing of her sister Cathy, Gina’s nephew and niece (Phil and Kimberly) became surrogate children to her, and she loved them as her own. She also adored her grandchildren (great nieces and nephews) who lovingly referred to her as “GG”. Gina cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. In her final days, she reached out to those closest to her, making sure they knew how much she loved them.
Gina was a member of Friendship Church where she rededicated her life to Christ. There she enjoyed true Christian fellowship and felt the presence of God, especially when her sister Vickie played the piano. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening, and caring for her pets: Lucy, Roxy, Heidi, and Gizmo; but her passion was Alabama football. She was the life of every party and a true die-hard Bama fan. Gina will be fondly remembered, especially on game day, rallying the crowd yelling “ROLLLL TIIIIDE !!!!!!!”
Gina is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Cathy Breth, and niece Michelle Hartsfield.
She is survived by her son, Lonnie (Reva Barnes) Brown; sister Vickie (Sam) Messick; niece/daughter Kimberly Jones; nephews: Lee Messick, Phil Hobbs, and Donald Hughes, Jr. Grandchildren: Samaria Barnes, Isaac Hobbs, Alexis Jones, Kameron Jones, and Brooklynn Lattime; best friend Donna Hollis and a host of extended family and friends.
