DOTHAN. . .Gladys Pilcher Adams Howell, a resident of Dothan, died late Wednesday night, August 31, 2016, at her home. She was 92.


            Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2016, in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. James B. Sanders, III and Reverend Wes Kelley officiating. A private graveside service for the family will be held in the Pinckard Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the church parlor.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church “In Christ’s Name Ministry”, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mrs. Howell was born and reared Pinckard, Alabama, daughter of the late Espy Elmer Pilcher, Sr. and Hattie Woodham Pilcher. She was a 1942 graduate of Midland City High School and attended Huntingdon College. Mrs. Howell lived in the Adams Mill Community, near Midland City, twenty-five years before moving to Dothan in 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. Mrs. Howell former member of the Pinckard United Methodist Church. She was a founding member of the Reverend Lucy Hathaway Cornerstone Bible Study Prayer Group. Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her first husband, Doyle Smith Adams, two brothers, Espy Elmer Pilcher, Jr. and Joe Harold Pilcher, and a sister, Helen Gissendanner.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, Acton Crawford Howell; a daughter, Amy Adams, Ogden, Utah; two sons, Alan Adams (Jeannie), Columbus, GA; and Ted “Corky” Adams (Joan), Midland City; a step-daughter, Cindy Howell Saunders, Tampa, FL; two sisters, Evelyn King, and Sandra Windham (Sterling), all of Dothan; four grandchildren, Derek Adams (Onida), Mason Adams, Keri Judah (Paul), and McDavid Adams; two step-grandchildren, Sarah Saunders and Rachel Saunders; five great-grandchildren, Trenton Adams, Maycie Adams, McKenzie Judah , Logan Judah, and Hayes Judah.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. James Robeson, Jr. and his staff, Dr. John Dunn and his staff and nurses, the staff of Gentiva Hospice, and also caregivers, Gerlean Johnson and Bettye Johnson, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Howell during her illness.
