The world became dimmer October 18, 2024. Glen Douglas “Hambone” Hammond, 81, a lifetime resident of Geneva, AL entered the pearly gates to meet Jesus and was greeted by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Yarbrough Hammond, and his beautiful daughter Kimberly Hammond Grantham. He was surrounded by family who watched him peacefully make his transition.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, October 21, 20224 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. James “Red” Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward directing.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Sunday, October 20, 2024 in the chapel of Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home.

Glen was born September 18, 1943 in Geneva to the late Luther and Louise Hammond. He worked in the furniture business beginning at the young age of 14 eventually working alongside his daddy Luther Hammond. He became the owner of Hammond Furniture Company in 1983. After 27 successful years, he retired to spend time with his family, fish, and piddle. He served in the Army National Guard and retired as a 1st Lt., being given the title of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel by the governor of Alabama. Most of his life included Alabama Football, fishing, working in his “shop,” “piddling,” and spending time with family and close friends.

To know Glen was to love, admire, and respect him. He loved with his whole heart everyone he met. He did not judge others. He accepted people from all walks of life. He taught his family to be strong, “Hammond Strong,” brave, and love unconditionally. He gave when he had little to give, helped others without boasting, and encouraged those around him to live with joy in their hearts.

He will be remembered as a hero, a positive role model, and a legend. He showed the value of hard work, how to be resilient, that making mistakes only means you are learning, to never give up no matter what life throws your way, how to love and care for others, that being selfless brings much joy, how to be humble, that God comes first, and that family is the most important.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Louise Hammond, his wife, Carol Yarbrough Hammond, his daughter, Kim Hammond Grantham, his brother, Carl Max Hammond, a nephew, “Little Max” Hammond, and close friends Linda Woodham Ward, and Ken Jones.

Those left behind to continue his wonderful legacy include his daughter, Julie Hammond Sconyers (Adam) of Geneva; sister, Peggy Hammond Peel (Pitt) of Piedmont, AL; grandchildren, Tucker Grantham (Tiara), Carrie Grace Grantham, all of Ozark, Annsley Grace Sconyers of Geneva, Ryan (Vanessa) Boyett, Justin (Amelia) Boyett, and Samuel Boyett all of Enterprise; son-in-law Buddy (Belinda) Grantham of Ozark; many nieces and nephews, The Junction Boys, and a host of special friends considered family.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
