Mrs. Hatcher was born on November 17, 1942, in Dothan to Raymond and Minnie Jewel (Smith) Dowling. She lived most of her life in Houston County and was the valedictorian of Rehobeth High School Class of 1961. She resided in Thomaston, Georgia, for several years and was employed as school secretary at Atwater Elementary School. Upon returning to Dothan, she worked with Dothan City Schools as a library aide at Northview High School; however, the majority of her career at Dothan City Schools was spent as school secretary at Highlands Elementary School. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, fishing, bowling, and walking at the gym with her church friends. Mrs. Hatcher was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, and her greatest goal in life was to serve the Lord and pass that legacy onto her children, and later, to her grandchildren, who were collectively the apple of her eye.
She is predeceased by her parents, several aunts and uncles, and her special furry companion, Buddy.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, James E. Hatcher, of Dothan; a sister, Diane Dowling, of Dothan; a son, Michael Hatcher (Jennifer), of Ozark; a daughter, Michelle Hatcher Wilson (Daniel), of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Jamie Lopez, of Dothan, Emily Hatcher, Rebekah Hatcher, and Aidan Hatcher, all of Ozark; several nieces and nephews, and her new rescue puppy, Ozzy.
Active pallbearers will be Aidan Hatcher, Jamie Lopez, Ryan Watson, David Hatcher, Frankie Lamb and Scott Smith.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers, Trudy Pitts, Monique “Nikki” Kyles, Robin McGriff, Rosie O’Neal, Sonja Skipper, and Vanessa German. The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to Dennis and Cricket Lee. We are grateful for the compassionate care shown to our loved one.
