Glenda Sue Godwin Corbin, lovingly known as Sue, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023, at the age of 76 in Dothan, AL. Born on June 3, 1947, in Midland City, AL, she was a beacon of strength and love throughout her life.
Sue was the cherished wife of Max Corbin, with whom she shared 58 beautiful years of marriage. United in love and partnership, they navigated life's joys and challenges side by side. Sue was a devoted mother to her late daughter, Melissa Corbin, and her legacy of maternal love endures in the hearts of her family. She was born to Jesse and Dora Cunningham Godwin, both of whom predeceased her, as did her siblings Thomas Godwin, Paul Godwin, Myrtie Pearl Anderson, Lillian Willis, Agnes Watkins, and Peggy Reynolds. Her surviving sister, Levene Johnson, along with many loving nieces and nephews, will forever hold Sue in their memories.
A proud graduate of Dale County High School, Sue was a lifelong resident of Midland City. She was a talented seamstress, turning her skill into a fulfilling career that spanned over 30 years. Sue spent 20 years at West Textiles in Headland, where her craftsmanship was admired. Her creative talents also shone brightly as she designed and made custom collegiate cheer uniforms, a testament to her meticulous attention to detail. For 10 years, she contributed her expertise to Stitchit, where her work was not only a profession but a passion.
Sue's life was a testament to her faith-filled spirit and her generous, loving nature. She had an unwavering commitment to her family, always ensuring they were well taken care of and never hungry, with her famous chicken salad being a family favorite. Her strong-willed personality earned her the affectionate title of 'boss lady,' as she confidently guided her loved ones with wisdom and wit, always assuring them that "The Lord's got you."
She grew up attending Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church and carried her faith into adulthood at Newton Assembly of God Church, where she was known as a prayer warrior. Sue's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and it shone through in every aspect of her life.
Sue's legacy is one of unconditional love, unwavering faith, and a generosity that knew no bounds. She will be remembered for her ability to lead with a gentle yet firm hand and for the warmth and comfort her presence brought to every room. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion to her family, her church, and her community.
As we bid farewell to Glenda Sue Corbin, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was. We take comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on through the many lives she touched with her kindness and love. Her memory will be cherished forever by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Sue's journey on earth has concluded, but her story continues in the hearts of all who loved her. We honor her life by carrying forward the lessons of faith, love, and generosity she so effortlessly embodied. Rest in peace, dear Sue, until we meet again.
