Gloria E. “Tinkie” Johnson of Samson passed away at Flowers Hospital on Monday, January 27, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Samson First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.
Mrs. Johnson was born to the late Tank and Lois Jenkins Early of Samson, Alabama, December 8, 1935. She was a longtime member of Samson First Baptist Church. Tinkie was also a member of Iris Garden Club. She was a graduate of Samson High School, class of 1953. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Troy State University in Education. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Geneva County Board of Education for thirty years. She was preceded in death by her son, Ed Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-seven years, Edwin Eugene Johnson, Jr. of Samson; two sons, Jamey Johnson (Anna), and Eric Johnson, both of Dothan; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Phillips Johnson of Panama City, Florida; four grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Aubrey Johnson, Amelia Johnson and Lois Johnson, all of Dothan; two brothers, Ellis Early (Johnnie Faye) of Dothan and Jerry Earley (Betty Sue) of Samson; and sister, Peggy Early Johnson (Jerry) of Bristol, Florida. Music will be provided by Lea Earley Hornsby. Serving as pallbearers are: Jack Jenkins, Joe Jenkins, John Jenkins, Mitch Early, Steve Early and Stan Early.
