Gloria Marble, affectionately known as Mom to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023, at the age of 101 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on August 18, 1922, in Columbus, Ohio, Gloria lived a life marked by love, devotion, and a gentle spirit that touched the hearts of many.
Gloria was preceded in death by her loving parents, William and Leonora Scroggs; her first husband, Victor Warren Stewart; her second husband, Icle Glenn Marble; and her siblings, Tilden Scroggs, Sidney Scroggs, Marion Scroggs, and Armond Scroggs. Her legacy of warmth and kindness is carried on by her cherished family. She is survived by her children, James Leroy Stewart (Vicki), Tilden Warren Stewart (Cindy), Marilyn Fay Stewart Jenkins, and Victoria Wren Stewart Burks (Bill); her adored grandchildren, Barbara Annette Cox Peden (Paul), Kimberly Anne Burks Sanders (James), and Victor William Burks; her treasured great-grandchildren, Alexander Peden, Christopher Williams (Brittany), Austin Ratliff (Mercedes), Vanessa Sanders, Sierra Sanders, Melaine Burks, and Victor William Burks, Jr.; and her beloved great-great-grandchildren, Brenden Mitchell, and Kennedi Doster.
A proud alumna of Ohio State University, Gloria's intellectual curiosity and commitment to excellence were evident throughout her life. She brought her sharp mind and meticulous attention to detail to her professional career as a bookkeeper, a role in which she excelled and made countless contributions. Gloria was also an active member of her community, involving herself in various associations where she formed many lifelong friendships.
Gloria's interests and passions were deeply rooted in her faith and her love for her family. She was a steadfast member of Cloverdale Baptist Church, where her Christian faith was an essential part of her life. Gloria's love for her family was unparalleled, and she was the epitome of a Christian lady, demonstrating her faith through her actions and the love she poured into her family. She was born at home, a beginning that foreshadowed a life filled with the warmth and comfort of a close-knit family.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Westside Terrace for their compassionate care and support during Gloria's final days. Their dedication to her well-being was a source of comfort and peace for her and her loved ones.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday December 14, 2023, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Alan Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm – 2:00pm one hour prior to the service.
