GRADY HUGH FOLKES
DOTHAN. . .Grady Hugh Folkes, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday morning, October 28, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in the Smyrna Baptist Church with Reverend James Bell and Reverend Hosea Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Smyrna Baptist Church, 1800 Huskey Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mr. Folkes was a lifelong resident of Houston County, son of the late Grady Edward Folkes and Myrtle Tew Folkes. He was a 1956 graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia and served his country in the U.S Army Reserve in the Dothan unit. Mr. Folkes was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church. He was retired as a meat salesman with Continental Grain (Southern Foods) of Columbus, Georgia after thirty-five years employment. Mr. Folkes had been a dialysis patient for the past seven years.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Fannie Belle Adams Folkes, Dothan; a daughter, Melanie C. Prevatt and husband, James, Dothan; a son, Bradley H. Folkes and wife, Dedra, Cottonwood; a sister, Betty Rayborn, Dothan; a brother, Roger Folkes and wife, Charlotte, Dothan; four grandchildren, Tristan Folkes, Manon Folkes, Trevor Folkes and Chad Carter; a step-grandson, Kaleb Graham; seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; a niece and four nephews; his very special beloved poodle, “Joy”;
Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Carter, Tristan Folkes, Kaleb Graham, Todd Tooke, Raymond Morris, Tommy Bell, Ronnie Taylor and Bobby Deese.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dialysis Clinic, Inc., for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Folkes during his illness.
