ABBEVILLE. . . Gregg Tate, a resident of White Oak on Lake Eufaula, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his home. He was 61.
Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum between Headland and Dothan with Kent Whiddon officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. Thursday at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o HNB First Bank for medical and funeral expenses or to the donor’s favorite charity.
Mr. Tate was a native of Headland and moved to White Oak on Lake Eufaula in 2009. He began his career with Dothan Oil Mill Company in January, 1978 as a dryer operator. He became Plant Superintendent in January 1990 and continued in that position with the transition to Golden Peanut Company until his death. Mr. Tate formerly served with the Newville Volunteer Fire Department and served as Chief from 1998 to 2002. Mr. Tate was a member of First Baptist Church Headland. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Tate, mother, Jane Sellers Snell, a sister, Pam Tate and his grandparents, Blanche and J.C. Sellers and also Pearl and Anderson Tate.
Surviving relatives include his wife and best friend of twenty eight years, Tami Tate; two daughters, Amanda King, Belton, Texas, and Wendy Atwood, Kinsey; a son, Nathan Atwood, Kinsey; his step-father, Bill Snell, Headland; two brothers, Tod Tate, Dothan, and Tim Tate (Linda) Valdosta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn King, Roxanne, Rebecca, and Ryleigh Atwood; a special friend, Sandy Duke; a special canine baby, Missy Tate. He was also Papa to Jeremy and Jordan Smith.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Mackie Adkins, E.J. West, Harold Turner, Chris Walworth, Doug Redding and Gary Leddon.
