DOTHAN. . .Grover Deleon Tew, a resident of Dothan, died Friday morning, May 5, 2023, in Whitehall Assisted Living. He was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Stephen Doss officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland & Dothan. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3054 McGehee Road, Montgomery, AL 36111.
Mr. Tew was born in Barbour County and was reared in Headland, son of the late Henry Lander Tew and Alice Altha Walker Tew. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in the Headland unit in 1947 and served on active duty during the Korean War and the Berlin Crisis. Mr. Tew retired from the National Guard, Headland unit, in 1988, with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He also retired as a Welder from Coleman American Moving and Storage in Dothan. Mr. Tew was a member of the Cowarts Baptist Church and formerly attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Eufaula. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Ann Moring Tew, his second wife, Frances Champion Tew, a son-in-law, Ricky Taylor, three sisters, Annie Mae Money, Lela Rash and Myrtle Hand, and two brothers, Hubert Tew and Herschel Tew.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Debra Ash (Bill), Cowarts, AL; and Tammy Taylor, Columbia, AL; a son, Gary Tew (Cathy), Cowarts, AL; a step-daughter, Bonnie Hobster (Ed), Syracuse, Utah; grandchildren, Heath Hughes, Shane Ash (Stacey), Amber Sims (Britt), Jennifer Taylor, Mandy Fennell (Trae), Beth Wisor, Heather Toro (Nathan), and Alyssa Dean (Wes); sixteen great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Deleon’s second family, Whitehall Assisted Living, for the loving care and kindness shown to him.
