H. Arthur Word was born on June 14, 1926, in Newton, Al; the son of W. Ben Word & Eva Joiner Word. He passed away last Friday at the age of 96. Art joined the Navy after high school and served as a radioman in Louisiana and Miami FL., during WW II where he met and married Dorothy Allman. They raised 2 children together (Linda Hyde & Ben Word) and enjoyed 3 grandchildren. Happily married for 64 years, they traveled the world while he worked at Pan American World Airways in Miami.
Apart from work, Art enjoyed fishing and building his boat. He also enjoyed flying small airplanes and became a flight instructor, teaching his son to fly. Then at the request of King Hussein, Art became advisor to the Jordanian Airlines Electronics Dept. After 2 years, Pan Am transferred him to New York then back to Miami to retire at the age of 55. Art returned to Dothan and enjoyed many good days of golf with Country Club friends until Dottie died in 2010.
In 2013, he married Joanna Adams and began enjoying life again. They traveled to new places, attended many events, and enjoyed concerts and dances together for the last 10 years. Art’s earthly life was certainly a happy one! And now he is with his Savior Jesus, praising Him for all eternity.
A graveside service will be at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 12 noon.
