ECHO…H B (Boss) Hughes, a resident of East County Road 36, Echo, died early Sunday evening, October 21, 2012, in a Dothan hospital. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 24, 2012, in the Bethel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Billy Gaither and Reverend Forrest Weekley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church, C/O Janet Brooks, 7300 E. County Road 36, Ozark, AL 36360.
Mr. Hughes, son of the late Henry B. Hughes and Lydia Frances Watson, was a lifetime resident of the Skipperville and Echo Communities. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and a former member of the Echo Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-four years, Martha Preston Hughes; two daughters, Joyce McKenzie and husband, Tommy, Webb; Janet Brooks and husband, Lamar, Echo; one son, Steve Hughes and wife, Darlene, Echo; one sister, Dorothy Cooper and a sister-in-law, Lois Hughes, both of Cumming, GA; one brother, Bibb Hughes, Sr. and wife, Hazel, Dothan; ten grandchildren, Keith Richardson (Beth), Stacey Hughes (Brandy W.), Nikki Long (Jared), Heath Hughes (Brandy H.), Jody Hughes (Tara), Kristi Enfinger (Bill), Brandon Brooks (Amber), Joshua McKenzie (Tiffany), Wesley McKenzie (Leah) and Michael McKenzie; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
