Harmon was born September 9, 1932 – the 9th child of Garland Whigham and Mattie Lou Hatcher, who were married on the 4th of July, 1917.  Harmon was born in Dale County, Alabama.  He entered the Air Force at the age of 17 and spent 24 years in the military, prior to his retirement.  He returned with his wife and children to Enterprise, AL.  He married his wife, Sue C. Tatum, on June 21st, 1950 in Johnson Co. Texas.  The couple had 5 children: Deborah, Emory, Harmon Jr. (Paul), Christen, and Audra Whigham.

Harmon earned a BS in History, and served as an Aviation Electrical Engineer in the US Air Force.  Upon retirement, he ran a small business and was devoted to his “Alabama Roots”.  As the youngest of 9 living children, Harmon’s childhood antics were often at the center of family gatherings.  A frequent tale involved Harmon and his father, Garland - a devoted fisherman, who would frequently “steal Harmon away from school to go fishing with him”; one story in particular was told through the ages – of a young Harmon “going fishing with his father”, and as the fishing line became tangled on a sunken tree in the river, “Harmon was sent diving into the ‘snake infested river’ to free the fishing line”.

Harmon’s own children, growing up in “the Military life, around the world”, often marveled at the annual trips to “South Alabama” – visiting our father’s family.  Memories of fishing, hunting, gardening and huge family gatherings - are still close to our hearts.  As children visiting from “the North, or Other Parts”, we were touched by the kindness, acceptance, and loyalty of our “Southern Family”.

Harmon Whigham, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather is mourned by his family.  He left all of us with one sincere message:  “Take care of the next generation; they are our future”.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Carole, and his two sons, Emory Whigham and Paul Whigham.

He is survived by his 3 daughters:  Deborah Logan, Christen Altermatt, and Audra Whigham, along with 11 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.
