HAROLD  EDWARD  RALEY,  SR.



KINSEY. . . Harold Edward “Pat” Raley, Sr., a resident of Kinsey, died Monday afternoon, December 18, 2017, at his home. He was 92.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 21, 2017, in the Kinsey Baptist Church with Reverend Joel T. Laseter and Reverend Brad Hardy officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Kinsey Baptist Church, 6745 Walden Drive, Kinsey, AL 36303.


            Mr. Raley was born and reared near Webb, son of the late Joseph Thomas Raley and Ottice Evelyn Holmes Raley. He was a graduate of the Houston County High School in Columbia. Mr. Raley served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, the Army Occupation Ribbon (Japan), the Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. He was engaged in farming from 1947 until 1986. Mr. Raley was an active member of the Kinsey Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Training Union and Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, and as a member of the building committee. He was elected and served as a Houston County Commissioner from 1975 until 1987. Mr. Raley formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Houston County Farm Bureau and the Houston County Soil and Water Conservation Board. In earlier years, he served the Town of Kinsey as its First Town Clerk and on the Kinsey Zoning Board. In later years, Mr. Raley volunteered at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Raley Whatley, a brother-in-law, Harvey (Preacher) Whatley, and a brother, Joseph W. “Smokey” Raley.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of seventy years, Martha Baxter Raley; two daughters, Evelyn Raley Laseter and Jo Anne Raley Decker (Charles), and a son, Harold E. Raley, Jr. (Cheryl), all of Kinsey; nine grandchildren, Shea Calhoun (Jason), Harold Raley III (Jessica), Chris Raley (Lisa), Allison Williams (Jay), John Laseter (Amanda), Rachel Exum, Joel Laseter (KrisAnn), Corey Decker and Patricia Decker; ten great-grandchildren, Blake and Emily Calhoun, Amber and Harlee Raley, Chloe Raley, Alicia and Elena Williams, John Quinn and Abigail Laseter and Scarlett Exum.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Harold Raley, III, Chris Raley, John Laseter, Blake Calhoun, Jason Calhoun and Jay Williams


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Judy Hough, Kindred Home Health & Hospice, and Extendicare Health & Rehab for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Raley during his illness.
