SHORTERVILLE. . .Harvey S. Fleming, a resident of Shorterville, died Monday afternoon, October 19, 2020, at his home. He was 98.


     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 23, 2020, in the Old Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Winford O. Gulledge and Reverend Ron Hendrickson officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Friday in the church sanctuary. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.  Social distancing guidelines and masks will be observed.


     Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Old Zion Baptist Church c/o John R. Starling, 480 County Road 36, Shorterville, AL 36373.


     Mr. Fleming was a lifelong resident of the Sandy Bottom Community of Henry County, son of the late William Curtis Fleming and Ola Odell Moring Fleming. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Fleming was a member of the Old Zion Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for sixty-seven years.  He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Henry County Hospital. Mr. Fleming was retired as Office Manager of the Alabama Soil Conservation Service in Henry County after forty-two years employment. He was an avid sports fan particularly Alabama football and Braves baseball.  Mr. Fleming was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Mae Fleming, a brother, James William Fleming, Sr., a son-in-law, Jeff Ethridge and a great-grandson, Coby Allums.


     Surviving relatives include his wife, Jewel Taylor Fleming; three daughters, Patty Fleming Rollins (George), San Antonio, TX; Faye Fleming Condon (Lou), Dothan; and Cherie Fleming Ethridge, Newville; a sister-in-law, Genara Hartley Fleming, Shorterville; six grandchildren, Chad Allums (Beth), Keisha Roberts, Amanda Rollins, Micah Holley (Brook), April Elwood and Ashley Price (Brock); nine great-grandchildren; a niece, Dell Marie McPherson (Joel), two nephews, Toby Fleming (Linda) and Curt Fleming (Kendra); a great-niece and three great-nephews.


     Serving as active pallbearers will be Chad Allums, Toby Fleming, Curt Fleming, Micah Holley, Steve Ward and Phil Chandler.
