Mrs. Hazel Pauline Branch Grimes of Samson, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 25, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at New Prospect Baptist Church in Marl, Alabama, with the Rev. Elbert Smith and Rev. Danny Branch officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery Fund % Laura Ann Herman, 258 Messer Road, Samson. AL 36477.
Mrs. Grimes was born in Geneva County, Alabama, on December 07, 1935, to the late James Hobart “Jimmy” and Minnie Edna Ashley Branch. On May 12, 1951, Hazel married Alvin Dykes Grimes. Mr. Grimes passed away just prior to their 66th Wedding Anniversary. To this union, their only son, Terry was born. When Terry completed college, Hazel returned to school and earned her nursing degree, where she would work the next 15 years on the orthopedic hall at Southeast AL Medical Center in Dothan. She loved her nursing and found her calling. In addition to her nursing, she sold Avon cosmetics over the years while living in Dothan. After retirement, she and Dykes came back to their beloved Geneva County and family. Hazel loved her family and enjoyed traveling, cooking and living life to the fullest. She was a faithful member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshipping and serving the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Dykes Grimes, two brothers, Carl Branch (Lillian) and Hubert Branch (Helen); four sisters, Leila Powell (James), Irene Yohn (Henry), Ivy Kilpatrick and Nannie Mae Branch.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by her only son, Terry Glen Grimes of Samson, AL; Kenneth Powell, nephew and long-term caregiver; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
