Hector Cantu Jr., a resident of Dothan, passed away on January 18, 2021. He was 69.


The family will greet friends at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel. Following the visitation, Hector will receive full Military Honors for his service to our great country at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.


Hector was born on July 26, 1951 in McAllen, Texas to the late Hector and Elisabertha Cantu. He lived most of his life in San Antonio, Texas. In 1975, Hector decided to join the military to serve the country he loved. He was employed with Ardex, where he worked for 16 years before retiring. Hector married the love of his life July 1, 1988. In 2017, he and his wife moved to Dothan. Hector was very hardworking and extremely dedicated to his work to provide for his family. He took pleasure in the beautiful outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved going on family vacations, especially if it involved being on a beach. Hector was a dedicated father and family man, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He could warm the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him with his joyful smile. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.


Hector is survived by his loving wife, Donna Cantu; his three sons, Derek Cantu, Duren Cantu, and Nathan (Abigail) Cantu; his daughter, Eliza Cantu; his two grandchildren, Sophia and Charlie; his two brothers, Rick Cantu and Jaime Cantu; and his sister, Lysa Saavedra.
