HELEN GOSS WOODS
HEADLAND…Helen Goss Woods, affectionately known as “Big Mom”, a former resident of Woods Road, Headland, died early Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, in Westside Terrace in Dothan. She was 90.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in the Headland United Methodist Church with Reverend Phil Craddock officiating. Burial will follow in the Headland Methodist Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in the Headland United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Headland United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Headland Methodist Cemetery Fund, 103 West King Street, Headland, AL 36345.
Mrs. Woods, daughter of the late Willie Joe Goss and Lena Estelle McEachern Goss was born in Pinckard, and reared in Headland, where she lived most of her life. She was a member of the Headland United Methodist Church. Mrs. Woods was formerly employed by Earl Solomon Dry Goods, the Headland Jewelry Company, and the Headland Meat Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Woods, a daughter-in-law, Mila Espy Woods, a grandson, Jimbo Woods, four sisters, Ruby Williams, Lorene Goss, Lois Smith, and Lucille Nunnery, and a brother, Hautman Goss.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Jane Woods Boyd and husband, William Boyd, Cantonment, FL; three sons, Joe C. Woods and wife, Faye Carr Woods, Headland; William E. (Billy) Woods, and wife, Suzanne Waddell Woods, Dothan; James G. (Jim) Woods, and wife, Nancy Alexander Woods, Newville; a brother-in-law, Hugh C. Woods, and wife, Nellie, Dothan; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews, and former daughters-in-law, Dianne Shelley Woods and Pam Woods Woodham, both of Headland.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Will Woods, Judd Woods, Clay Woods, Matt Woods, Curry Woods, Cliff Boyd, David Boyd, and Todd Boyd.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Westside Terrace and Covenant Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Woods during her stay at Westside Terrace.
