Helen Johnston, of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 93.
A funeral mass will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Saint John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Enterprise, Alabama with Father Zachary Greenwell officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am and continuing until service time.
Helen was born in Napoleon, Ohio, to the late Bernard and Margaret French Farison. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. John Johnston (Ret.); daughter, Julie Johnston; brother, Lawrence Farison; sister, Inez Steinbrecher; and granddaughter, Lisa Wilson.
Helen was a faithful member of Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Enterprise for fifty years. She served in the Ladies Guild, along with being in study groups, prayer groups, and making rosaries. Helen’s hobbies included painting and sewing. She was a member of Tuesday Stitching Group, Wiregrass Artists, and Enterprise Quilters. She loved nothing more than spending time and traveling with friends who shared her same passions.
Survivors include her children, Michael Johnston (Shirley) of Phenix City, Alabama, and Denise Wilson (Keith) of Enterprise, Alabama, Ann Lanning of Seattle, Washington, Mark Johnston (Lisa) of Dothan, Alabama; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one more on the way.
Flowers will be accepted or the family asks that contributions be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 123 Heath St. Enterprise, Alabama 36330.
