Mrs. Helen Snellgrove Bruner of Dothan, AL passed away Tuesday September 6, 2016 at Flowers Hospital. She was 80.
Born April 21, 1936 in Houston County to the late Dempsey Whitler and Annie Mae Porter Snellgrove, Helen was a 1954 graduate of Houston County High School in Columbia, AL. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she retired from Southeast Alabama Medical Center in 2001 after over 15 years of service. She enjoyed living at Baptist Village in Hutto Tower for seven years and enjoyed socializing with staff and residents. Helen also volunteered in the Baptist Village Senior Center for several years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, William Earl Bruner; brothers, Garvious Snellgrove of Dothan, Thomas Ray Snellgrove of Webb and William Morgan Snellgrove of Dothan; sisters, Joyce Snellgrove Heitzenrater of Webb, Dorothy (Dot) Snellgrove Shelley of Trussville and Laura Jean Snellgrove Benton of Thomasville, GA; infant grandson, Michael Robert Bruner of Houston, TX; and brother-in-law, Curtis Benton of Thomasville, GA.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Wendy Wright Bruner of Houston, TX and Jim and Grace Miller Bruner of Houston, TX; two granddaughters, Brittany Bruner and Renee Bruner of Houston, TX; and a very special great nephew and “my best friend” Jacob Carlton (Jake) Faulk of Dothan; a special niece, Mandy Faulk; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Carlton Ott of Dothan; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Kathryn Snellgrove of Dothan; brothers-in-law, Jay H. Shelley of Trussville and John Heitzenrater of Hodgesville; and sisters-in-law, Laura Bludsworth of Dothan and Noma Faye Snellgrove of Webb; special friend Jim (James Robert) Lisenby of Dothan; dancing friends and partners at Mattie Peters’ Country Club; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, September 9, 2016 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Henry County with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM, Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be nephews and nephews-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be her Houston County High School classmates of 1954.
