Henry Junior “Bug” Hughes, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at a local hospital. He was 69.


Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Joe Bateman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-7 pm.


Mr. Hughes was born on September 17, 1949 in Donaldsonville, Georgia and lived the early years of his life in the Dothan area. He was employed as a welder with Air Conditioning Associates and later with other construction companies. Most of his working career has been with PCL Industrial Construction as a quality control inspector, until his recent illness. Mr. Hughes was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and American Welding Society. He was a very hard worker, providing for all his family’s needs, he was especially proud of his grandchildren. He was a loving family man, always playing and picking on one another. Mr. Hughes loved being outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.


Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Meritta Cross Hughes; his sons, Eric (Donna) Carroll, Scott Hughes, Terry (Kim) Hughes, Todd Hughes, Nicholas (Audrey) Hughes, and Joshua (April) Hughes; his daughters, Shannon Warfel and Krystal Ketron; his 14 grandchildren, Brittany Brooks, Michael Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Leanna Carroll, Haylee Hughes, Brandon Hughes, Blake Hughes, Madalynn Hughes, Ava Hughes, Caden Ketron, Tait Ketron, Reagan Ketron, Christian Hughes, and Coleson Hughes; his 2 great-grandchildren, Desmond Ferguson and Addison Brooks; his brothers, James (Kathy) Hughes, Jerry (Debbie) Hughes, Mack Hughes, Rickey (Mary) Hughes, and Mark (Mary)Hughes; his sisters, Sue Lomanack, Joyce (Kris) Flippo, and Brenda Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Brandon Hughes, Blake Hughes, Christian Hughes, Todd Hughes, Terry Hughes, and Eric Carroll.
