EDWIN COMMUNITY. . .Henry Lang Sowell, a resident of the Edwin Community of Henry County, died early Wednesday morning, March 11, 2020, at his home. He was 93.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 14, 2020, in the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Danny Henderson and Reverend Kenneth Preston officiating and a eulogy to be given by Steven Sowell. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the New Prospect Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry Whaley, 5328 Walden Drive, Dothan, AL 36303 or favorite charity.
Mr. Sowell was a lifelong resident of the Edwin Community of Henry County, son of the late Alvah Franklin Sowell and Annie Myrtle White Sowell. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Sowell was engaged in farming which included row crop, cattle and swine most of his adult lifetime. He was a member of the New Prospect Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Gwendolyn Beaty Sowell; a daughter, Jane Sowell, and a son, Reggie Sowell (Martha), all of the Edwin Community; a sister, Barbara Kirkland (Rev. Thomas), Abbeville; and a brother, William F. Sowell (Linda), Edwin Community; two grandchildren, Steven Sowell (April) and Amber Cutchen (Clay); four great-grandchildren, Logan Harper, Emily Cutchen, Samuel Sowell and Cal Cutchen.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ronald Brown, Kenneth Whaley, Terry Carpenter, Lou Bysiek, Clint Money, Brian Money and Wayne Brown.
