HEADLAND. . .Henry Odell Walker, a resident of Headland, died early Thursday morning, March 17, 2022, at his home. He was 81.


 Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2022, in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Norman C. Simmons and Pastor Evan Kohen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


 Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.


Odell Walker was born and reared in the Bethlehem Community, near Headland, son of the late Henry Grady Walker and Wilma Hand Walker. He served his country in the Army Reserve in the Abbeville unit. Odell was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was retired from MoorMan’s Mfg. Co. as a District Sales Manager. Odell loved horses and promoted horsemanship. He was a founder of the Deep South Racking Horse Association and the Wiregrass Saddle Club and was one of the first designated Commissioners for the Racking Horse Breeders Association. Odell showed racking and walking horses. He enjoyed trail riding and taught his children, grandchildren and other family members how to ride horses. Odell rebuilt fiddles and was a skilled luthier and fiddle player. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine McLain Walker, and two brothers, Rex Walker and Kenneth Walker.


Surviving relatives include two daughters, Rhonda Walker Harrison (Ben), Abbeville; and Christi Walker LeJeune (Bryan), Englewood, TN; a son, Jason Walker (Crystal), Midland City; two sisters, Carol Bailey (Curley), and Glenda Whatley, all of Headland; three brothers, Tommy Walker, Harry Walker and Hasten Walker (Teresa), all of Headland; grandchildren, Jake Johnston (Panida), Zachary Johnston (Marni), Mary Kathryn Harrison, Samuel Harrison (Katherine), Camron Walker and Courtney Jones;  great-grandchildren, Newton Johnston and Sakina Johnston; brothers-in-law from the McLain family, Thomas Allen McLain, Hubert W. McLain, Jr. (Joanna), John “Bud” McLain (Pam), and Charles “Marty” McLain (Angela); numerous nieces and nephews.
