ABBEVILLE…Herbert Arthur Granberry, a resident of Abbeville, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, in a Dothan hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 27, 2019, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Joey Hudspeth officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Union Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the mortuary chapel.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Safe Haven Animal Rescue and Kennel (S.H.A.R.K.), P.O. Box 126, Abbeville, AL, 36310.
Mr. Granberry was born and reared in the Hebron Community between Headland and Columbia in Henry County, son of the late Oscar Mitchell Granberry and Lennie Mae Marshall Granberry. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Granberry moved to Abbeville in 1972 and worked at Fort Rucker as a sheet metal mechanic in aircraft maintenance. Mr. Granberry attended Union Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lula Mixon and Quilla Granberry, five brothers, Raymond Granberry, Oscar Byrd Granberry, Fred Granberry, Alec Granberry and Bobby R. Granberry, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herman and Barbara C. Money, and brother-in-law, Charles Culpepper.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Carol Culpepper Granberry; his daughter, Lisa C. Brown; sister-in-law, Margaret C. Culpepper; three grandchildren, Andrew Skeen Brown (Katie), Kirby C. Brown (Heather), and Jameson Brown (Lauren); two great-granddaughters, Chloe Elizabeth Brown and Kathryn Claire Brown; a host of loving nieces and nephews, including his special niece, June Mixon Brannon.
Serving as active pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.
