ABBEVILLE…Herbert H. Rhoden, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama, died Monday night, September 17, 2018, at his home. He was 86.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 22, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Minister John Rhoden officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the mortuary chapel.

Herbert Rhoden was born and reared in Okeechobee, Florida, son of the late John Robert Rhoden and Lennie Olivia King Rhoden. Mr. Rhoden served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Henry County Road and Bridge Department as a heavy equipment operator. In earlier years, he owned and operated Everglades Restaurant in Moore Haven, Florida. He was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Rhoden was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Brown Rhoden; his daughter, Mary Pauline Rhoden; his son, Robert C. Story; four sisters, Mildred Smith, Dewilda Boney, Marie Hare and Evelyn Conerly; and his brother, Milton Rhoden.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Ginger Rhoden Turner (Sammy), Abbeville, Ruthie Clemente, Hobe Sound, FL; daughter-in-law, Pam Story, Headland; three sisters, Dora Helen Ishii (Frank), St. Louis, MO, Johnnie Johns (Stanlo), Brighton, FL, and Delores Vickers, Okeechobee, FL; ten grandchildren; Vivian Throgmorton, Aaron Townsend, Hope Crew (Kevin), David Rhoden, Sgt. Zack Turner, Jordan Clemente, Joshua Clemente, Sierra Story, Garrett Story and Savanna Story; twelve great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Evelyn Patterson.
