A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Eddie Frazier officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service.
Herman Garrison, Jr., affectionately known as Herman, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023, in Dothan, AL. Born on September 25, 1952, in Troy, AL, he was a man of deep faith and boundless love, whose selfless nature touched all who knew him.
Herman was the beloved son of the late Hermon Garrison and Luler Mae Smith Garrison. He was the cherished brother of Omar Garrison, Ellie Smith, and Louise Finn. He was preceded in death by his siblings Pearletha Bigham, Mary Garrison, and Willie Garrison. Herman was a special friend to Jamil Harris "To Bad" and was a dear uncle to his 11 nieces and 7 nephews. He was also the admired nephew of Easer Dell Smith, Celia Smith, and Clarence Garrison.
Herman's early education was rooted in the Wicksburg and Ashford Schools. His strong work ethic was evident in his professional life. He was a dedicated driver for Coca-Cola and later ventured into the construction industry, where his hard work and dedication were highly valued.
Herman was a man of many interests. He was a devoted family man who loved talking on the phone with his loved ones, ensuring they were always connected, no matter the distance. He had a flair for fashion and took great joy in dressing up. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. As he was studying to become a Jehovah's Witness, he found solace and strength in Bible study, which deepened his relationship with God and enriched his spiritual life. Herman was a beacon of love and faith. His selfless nature was evident in his actions and his words. He was always there for his family and friends, offering support, love, and a listening ear. He was a man who put others before himself, always ready to lend a helping hand. His faith was unwavering, and he was a testament to the strength that comes from a deep and abiding belief in God.
Herman's passing leaves a void that will be hard to fill. Yet, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the power of faith, the importance of family, and the joy of living life with a generous and loving heart.
