Herman “Willette” Buckhalt (Buck), of Ashford, passed away, Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was 87.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Enon Church Cemetery with Glover Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to service time.
Mr. Buckhalt was born October 9, 1935 in Houston County to Jim Henry and Willie May Buckhalt and lived his earlier years in Ashford. At the age of ten he moved to Brannon Stand and graduated from Wicksburg High School in 1954.
Mr. Buckhalt was retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company after a 31-year career. He later worked with Barbers Dairy and Dairy Fresh for 10 years. Following retirement, he worked with DeanCo Auction and O’Reilly Auto Parts.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and Alabama Football…..Roll Tide! He loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball. Mr. Buckhalt was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a past Deacon and was a member of the Men’s Open Sunday School Class.
He is predeceased by his parents and a sister, Grace Tingle.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara Nell Battle Buckhalt of Ashford; a son, Kenneth W. Buckhalt (Leslie) of Enterprise; two daughters, Sheryl Buckhalt of Dothan and Kathy B. Forrester (Ricky) of Headland; grandchildren, Nicole Taylor (Thad) of Headland, Blake Forrester of Headland, Kati Bullock (Randy) of Trussville, Payton Waters (Jake) of Hartford, Hayden Buckhalt of Georgia and Abbie Buckhalt of Enterprise; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Evan and Kiley Taylor, all of Headland, Riley Bullock of Trussville and Maisyn Kate and Bowden Waters, both of Hartford; a brother, James Buckhalt (Jan) of Abbeville; a sister-in-law, Glenda Jordan of Dothan; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Active pallbearers will be Blake Forrester, Thad Taylor, Dwain Tingle, Billy Tingle, Morris Stringer, Edward Scarborough and Carey Armstrong.
Mac Woodham and Bill Mitchell will serve as honorary pallbearers.
