ABBEVILLE. . .Hershel Floyd Bedsole, age 79, of Abbeville, passed away Wednesday morning, October 8, 2014, after an extended battle with Parkinson’s Disease, due to herbicide exposure.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 11, 2014, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend George Bryan and Reverend Leon Bedsole officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the Adoniram Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:45 A.M. Saturday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adoniram Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Tina Barnes, 3475 County Road 71, Shorterville, AL 36373, or SouthernCare Hospice, 2576 Montgomery Highway, Dothan, AL 36303, or a favorite charity.


            Mr. Bedsole was born and reared in the Hardwicksburg Community of Henry County and was a 1954 graduate of Abbeville High School. He later received a B.S. Degree in Resource Management from Troy State. Mr. Bedsole served his country for twenty-three years in the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the Air Force, he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as an auditor in Valdosta, Georgia.                                                                                                                  Mr. Bedsole was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church. His greatest passion was being able to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  He did so wherever he lived whether in the U.S. or overseas. Mr. Bedsole was a dedicated Deacon and Sunday School teacher and especially enjoyed visiting for the church and working with the youth. He also enjoyed making wooden toys for children.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd M. Bedsole and Mildred Smith Bedsole.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of sixty-years, Elizabeth Ann Calhoun Bedsole, Abbeville; a son, Hershel Kevin Bedsole (Linda), San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, Joshua Kevin Bedsole and Katherine Grace Bedsole; a sister, Peggy Proffitt, Mobile, AL; a brother, Rev. Leon L. Bedsole (Pat), Biloxi, MS; a brother-in-law, Sam W. Calhoun (Betty), Abbeville; several nieces and nephews.
