Mr. Hilburn Benton, age 85, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, at Flowers Hospital.
Graveside services will be held, Thursday, January 11th at 11:00 at Newton City Cemetery with AubreySullivan officiating. Family First Funeral Care of Dothan is in charge of the arrangements.
He was married to the love of his life for 63 yearsand together they built a life they loved.
Mr. Benton was born May 6, 1938, to the late Raymond and Inez Benton of Newton, Alabama. Hegraduated from Newton Highschool and later received his A&P license where he worked as an aircraft mechanic at Fort Rucker for a number of years. He worked in the magazine distributing business for 35 years. In later years he worked as a security officer with the State of Alabama at the rest area on 231. Mr. Benton retired from the Alabama National Guard after 23 years of service.
He enjoyed the simple things in life, vacationing with his family, working in his yard, and was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Virgina Tomlin and brother Larry Benton.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara Benton of Newton, Alabama; daughters, Felicia Little (Keith) of Geneva, Alabama, Tonja Duke of Pinkard, Alabama; Five grandsons, Elliott Parrish, of Newton, Alabama, Phillip Parrish II of Yulee, Florida, Justin Parrish of Pinkard, Alabama, Matthew Anderson of Dothan, Alabama, Joshua Anderson of Dothan, Alabama; sisters, Bobbie Sylvester of Dothan, Alabama, Carolyn McLaney of Dothan, Alabama, Linda Yarbrough (Gary) of Echo, Alabama, Debbie Barrett of Dothan, Alabama; brothers, Wilbur Benton(Nancy) of Prattville, Alabama, Roger Benton of Newton, Alabama.
Hilburn thanks all his family, friends, and acquaintances he met along life’s journey. ROLL TIDE AND AMEN.
