Mr. Hilliard Lamar Jenkins, 87, a resident of Dothan passed away, on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Southeast Health following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Union Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Cory Solomon officiating and Glover Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Air Force Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted.
Lamar was born August 30, 1936, in Graceville, Florida, to the late William Huey & Maggie (Owens) Jenkins. After his birth, his family moved to Cottonwood, where he lived on the family farm until he graduated from Cottonwood High School. Following his graduation, Lamar enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he obtained the rank of Master Sergeant and retired after 20 years of service. When his time in the service came to an end, he was one of the first employees to be hired at Michelin Tire, dedicating 15 years working as a stock clerk up until his retirement in 1993. Aside from his military service and work life, Lamar managed rental properties and enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, gardening, piddling, and was known as a handyman. He was a lifetime member of Union Hill Baptist Church, where he also served as a deacon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Buddy & Maggie Jenkins.
He is survived by wife of 63 years, Glenda Faye (Maddox) Jenkins; his two daughters, Rhonda Jenkins Outlaw (Chuck) of Dothan, and Goldie Jenkins Walding (Greg) of Dothan; five grandchildren, Alex Outlaw (Lucie), Austin Outlaw (Taylor), Macy Thomas (Scott), Laney Graham (Lake), and Madison Sanders (Tyler); five great-grandchildren, Winnie Thomas, Brewer Thomas, Luke Graham, Marilyn Marie Sanders, and J.B. Sanders; one sister, Beverly Hudek of Cottonwood; and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers, Alex Outlaw, Austin Outlaw, Scott Brewer Thomas, Lake Graham, Tyler Sanders, Greg Walding, and Chuck Outlaw.
