ABBEVILLE. . .Hiram Gerald Daugherty, a resident of Abbeville, died late Sunday night, May 21, 2023, in a Dothan hospital. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 27, 2023, in the Abbeville Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Abbeville Methodist Church Family Life Center. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Abbeville Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to Safe Haven Ark (S.H.A.R.K.), P.O. Box 126, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mr. Daugherty was born and reared in McIntosh, Alabama, son of the late Hiram Posey Daugherty and Nona Hildebrand Daugherty. He was a graduate of Leroy High High School and received a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University. As a young adult, Mr. Daugherty served his country in the U. S. Army Reserve. He was retired from Ciba-Geigy as Director of Production, Operation and Planning, after over thirty years employment. Mr. Daugherty was a staunch supporter of Auburn Athletics, attending every football, basketball and baseball game that he was able to attend. He was an avid golfer, loved hunting, fishing, playing the piano and singing church hymns. He was a member of the Abbeville Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time working on his property with his tractors and riding on his Trekker. Mr. Daugherty was preceded in death by three brothers, Elwood Daugherty, Carrol Daugherty and Marvin Daugherty, and four sisters, Ruth Everette, Helen Touchstone, Velma Patrick and Betty Milstead.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Fay Vann Daugherty; two daughters, Amy Daugherty, Auburn, AL; and Laurie Daugherty, Spring, TX; a son, Vann Daugherty (Angie), Duluth, Ga; two sisters, Dr. Bonnie McGee and Bernice Rocray (Sam); grandchildren, Camille Daugherty, Lauren Daugherty, Ava Daugherty, Eric Daugherty, and Will Daugherty.
