SHORTERVILLE. . .Homer William Kennedy, a resident of Shorterville, died Wednesday afternoon, September 16, 2020, at his home. He was 93.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. (C.D.T.) Saturday, September 19, 2020, in the Shorterville Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend George Bryan officiating. Social distancing and masks will be observed. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Shorterville Baptist Church or Shorterville Cemetery Fund, c/o Rossie Money, 2457 County Road 91, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Hillsborough County, Florida, son of the late Thomas Irwin Kennedy and Johnnie Tye Kennedy. He was reared in Shorterville where he lived most of his adult lifetime. Mr. Kennedy served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Shorterville Baptist Church and was a former member of the Shorterville Masonic Lodge. In earlier years, Mr. Kennedy was employed as the Service Manager at AAA Cooper Transportation Company and also was formerly employed by Dothan Truck and Equipment. In later years, he owned and operated M & M Motors in Shorterville. He was preceded in death by a brother, T.J. Kennedy.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Jean Ragan Kennedy; three daughters, Libby Nowell (Raymond), Odenville, AL; Angie M. Simms (Bruce), LaGrange, GA; and Laurie A. Martin, Phenix City; three sons, Robert M. Kennedy, Newville; Homer Steve Martin (Jeanie), Morgan, GA; and Edgar W. Martin (Kathy), Carnegie, GA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a niece, Johnnie Davis (Ed); two nephews, Thomas Kennedy (Elaine) and Bobby Joe Kennedy.
