Hosea Daniels, a man whose life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and kindness, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, in Webb, Alabama. Born in the small town of Gordon, Alabama, on May 10, 1926, Hosea's journey through life was marked by his unwavering spirit and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His departure has left a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of warmth and generosity will forever illuminate the paths of those he touched.
Hosea's early years in Houston County were the foundation of a life characterized by hard work and strong family values. At the young age of 14, he began working as a farmer, a career that would span nearly seven decades. His dedication to the land and the community was evident in his long-standing association with Somerford Farms and later with Ivey Farms in Webb, where he not only managed the property but also nurtured the lives of those who worked alongside him until his retirement at the age of 87.
The family was the cornerstone of Hosea's world. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mable Barnes Daniels, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, his daughter, Martha Timpson, his son, Tommy Daniels, his great-grandson, Quintavias Bass, and his sisters, Bithan Blackmon, Annie Clinkscale, and Dorothy Carroll, Hosea's love for his family never wavered. He is survived by his cherished children, Elizabeth (Lenzy) Brown, Wilson (Sallie) Daniels, Carolyn (Eulus) Lumpkin, Lovella (Clinton) Bass, Essie Tillman, Mable Daniels, and Pamela Daniels, his grandchildren, Vanielle Brown, Christopher Timpson, April Yi, Candace Bass, Sondra Moore, Corey Daniels, Quinton Bass, Jessica Lumpkin, and Ariel Tillman and his great-grandchildren, Jazzilyn Bass, Maliya Oliver, John Martin, Shiloh Martin, Isaiah Bass, Luke Bass, and Thomas Martin, who were the pride of his life, and his beloved sister, Cora Lee McKenzie. His legacy will continue to flourish through them, as they carry forward the values he instilled.
Hosea's life was one of service and faith. He was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Webb, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent before joining Christ Church International. His commitment to his faith was as steadfast as his commitment to his community, and even when his health no longer permitted him to attend, his spirit remained an integral part of the congregation.
Those who knew Hosea will remember him for his loyalty, hard work, and his serene approach to life, always trusting in the power of prayer and the value of doing things well. He embodied the belief that "If you pray about it, don't worry about it," a philosophy that guided him through life's challenges and triumphs. His sense of humor, generosity, and dedication were sources of strength and inspiration to all.
As a motivational speaker might say, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do," and Hosea loved deeply—his work, his family, and his community. His life was a shining example of selflessness, friendship, and love. His patience and support were the foundations upon which his family built their dreams, and his memory will continue to be a guiding light.
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded." Hosea Wilson Daniels lived by this creed, ensuring that not just one, but countless lives were better for his presence. His was a life well-lived, a narrative of love written on the hearts he left behind.
