Louis “Howard” Burdine, age 78, a resident of Dothan passed away Wednesday March 16, 2016 at a local hospital.

Funeral Services will be 2 pm Saturday March 19, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Chris Jones officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 - 7 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home with Robert Byrd directing.

Mr. Burdine was born April 6, 1937 in Lenna, Oklahoma to Lonnie and Novene Weber Burdine of Arkansas. Howard and his family moved to San Joanquin Valley where he grew up. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1955, afterwards he served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1963. Howard went to work with Comcast Cable, which brought him to Dothan, Alabama where he met his bride, Ms. Lynda Morris. They married July 29, 1964. He worked for Couch Construction before his employment with Roadway Express as a P&D driver in 1981. He retired from Roadway in April 2002, after driving 1,000,000 miles without a traffic accident or violation.

Howard enjoyed playing softball for several city league teams and for Park Avenue/Westgate Church of Christ. After he retired, he enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, traveling with his wife, Lynda, reading westerns, feeding hummingbirds, and watching Alabama Football.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Lynda Morris Burdine; daughters, Tracy Creel (David) and Jennifer Hawkins (James Jr.); a son Brett Burdine (Jessica); six grandchildren, Hayden Blighton (Joshua), Tanner Creel, Theron Hawkins, Weber Hawkins, Tucker Cahill (Burdine) and Ally Burdine.
