Howard Ernest Medley, age 59, previously of Geneva, died on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from complications related to pancreatic cancer at his home in Pell City, Alabama. Howard was born August 14, 1955 in Geneva, Alabama to the late Charles and Mary Lee Medley. Howard is survived by his brother, Craig Medley and his wife, Karen, of New Brockton, Alabama; his son, Domonic Medley of Gainesville, Georgia; nephew, Todd Medley, his wife, Pam, and their daughter, Allison, of Geneva, Alabama; nephew, Doug Medley of Opp, Alabama and his sons, Steven and Zack Medley.
Howard graduated from Geneva High School in 1973 where he then enlisted in the United States Army. Howard traveled the world, visiting such places as Germany, Italy, and Honduras. He served in the Army until 1990. Howard’s obsession for Harley Davidson motorcycles drew him to a job in sales, where he worked at the Harley Davidson dealership in Trussville, Alabama. Howard then moved to the plumbing industry as an accomplished Journeyman - his career until the time of his death.
Howard was a man of simplicity. He made his own fashion statement: sweatpants and house slippers. In the last months of his life, Howard enjoyed fishing at the lake next to his home. He had a contagious laugh and never met a stranger. He could sit at a Waffle House drinking coffee for hours and leave having made several friendships. Howard was a smooth talker - he could sell popsicles to an Eskimo. He had a life-long love affair for Blue Bell vanilla bean ice cream. He had watched every Andy Griffith episode ever made. Monday nights were devoted to Wheel of Fortune. He would wipe his plate clean after dinner with a slice of bread. Howard lived life by his favorite saying: "There’s no use crying over spilled milk."
Donations in Howard’s memory can be made to Maple Avenue Baptist Church in Geneva, Alabama. Howard was cremated on March 29 where his ashes will one day be scattered in the mountains of Tennessee. The Medley Family wishes to thank Kilgroe Funeral Home of Pell City, Alabama for taking such delicate care of Howard and assisting with his final wishes. A
Celebration of Howard’s Life will be scheduled in the near future for friendship, food, fellowship, remembering Howard’s "Good Old Days." For details, contact Craig Medley:
