Capt. Howard Oren Elkins of Saint Petersburg, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Coffee Springs, AL. He was 84 years old.

A celebration of life service will be held later.

Howard was born in Saint Petersburg, FL to the late Marvin and Lillian Elkins on Christmas Day 1935. Howard was an accomplished father and airline pilot. He was a loyal friend and mentor to many that were part of his life and travels.

He loved to sit on the porch and talk with friends that would visit regularly. He waved at every car that passed. During his retirement years, he was always accompanied by his faithful companion Shadow, who he referred to as a “great gentleman.” There outings included going to church, dinning out, doctor visits, or just a ride downtown.

He is survived by his sons, Thomas and Timothy Elkins.
