Hubert A. Jackson, 88, a resident of Columbia, AL passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tony Deese officiating. Burial will follow in Columbia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Jackson was born July 29, 1926 in Dothan and was a resident of Columbia his entire life. He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy. He began his career in the automobile industry working with Malone Motor Company. In 1970, he partnered with Wayne Wells to form Wells-Jackson Oldsmobile Inc. The dealership relocated to the Ross Clark Circle location in 1972. Mr. Jackson became the sole owner in 1990 renaming the business Hubert Jackson Olds., Inc. Mr. Jackson was among the "greats" in the local car business in his day. He was known to be fair and honest by his vast clientele which led to his success. He was greatly respected by other dealers. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harmon Augustus and Ethel Sanders Jackson; brother, Russell Jackson; sisters, Lucille Worrell, Nevada Sabre, Nell Lane and Ruby Harrell.
Survivors include his son Bert (Vicki S.) Jackson; his daughter Gale (Rusty) Smith; grandchildren, Dustin Jackson, Brooke Smith, and Jackson Smith; his sisters, Ola Mae Bowman, JoAnn Hartzog, and Linda Haden; several nieces and nephews.
