HUBERT  RHETT  TAYLOR



ABBEVILLE. . .Hubert Rhett Taylor, a resident of Abbeville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018. He was 68.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 2, 2018, in the Union Springs Baptist Church, near Newville, with Reverend Teddy Ward and Reverend Guy Causey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church “Children’s Fund”, 310 Dothan Road, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to the Abbeville Christian Academy, P.O. Box 9, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Rhett Taylor was born and reared near Newville. He was the son of the late Hubert W. Taylor and Jewel Savelle Taylor. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School and served in the Army National Guard in the Abbeville unit. Rhett was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the sanctuary choir.  He formerly served as Mayor of Abbeville, two terms on the City Council and served on the Alabama Gas District Board. He formerly owned and operated Taylor’s Citgo and was currently involved in the operation of Taylor Farms. Rhett was preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel Joshua Taylor.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Sandra Herndon Taylor; three sons, Joshua Taylor (Heather), and Jonathan Taylor (Christi), all reside in Abbeville; and Chris Whiddon (Megan), Boulder, CO; a sister, Jackie Taylor Scott (Dwayne), Newville; five grandchildren, Joshua Rhett Taylor, Jr., Cassidy Taylor, William Rhett Taylor, Finley Whiddon and Addie Whiddon.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Dwayne Scott, Keith Taylor, Jimmy Blissett, Mick Towers, Virgil Bolt and Jonathan Keith Taylor.
