DOTHAN…Hugh Curry Woods, Jr., a resident of Dothan, died unexpectedly early Wednesday evening, September 3, 2014, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 6, 2014, in the Evergreen Presbyterian Church with Dr. Joseph Johnson and Reverend Lynn Nesbitt officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evergreen Presbyterian Church, 1103 N. Pontiac Avenue, Dothan, AL 36303, or to the American Heart Association, 1449 Medical Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35213.
Mr. Woods was born and reared in Headland, son of the late Hugh Curry Woods, Sr. and Neva Mae Williams Woods. He was a graduate of Headland High School and received a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Auburn University. Mr. Woods served his country in the U.S. Army and moved to Dothan in 1959. He retired from Pharmacia as a Pharmaceutical Representative and had also been employed by Upjohn Pharmaceutical. He was a member of the Evergreen Presbyterian Church, the V.F.W. and was a former member of the Elks Lodge. Mr. Woods was also a member of the Alabama Pharmaceutical Association.
Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his brothers, William R. (Bobby) Woods, Eugene (Gene) Woods, and James Earl Woods.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Nellie Whitehead Woods, Dothan; two sons, Tony R. Woods (Connie), Jacksonville, FL; and Samuel B. Woods (Julie), Prosperity, S.C.; four grandchildren, Drew Woods, Dillon Woods, Shelby Woods, and Reagan Woods; a sister-in-law, Myra Whitehead Parker (Dave), Plano, TX.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Drew Woods, Dillon Woods, Reagan Woods, Jim Woods, Joe Woods, and Billy Woods. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Danny Lewis, Brian Lewis, and Rodney McCoy.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Pilcher’s Ambulance Service, Dothan Fire Department, and the staff of Flowers Hospital ER for the care of Mr. Woods.
