Hugh E. Harvey, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at a local hospital. He was 72.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7 pm and a wake service will be held at 7 pm.
Mr. Harvey was born on December 9, 1941 in the Republic of Panama and lived there until his retirement from the Panama Canal Commission. He moved to Dothan in 1988 and was employed with Ace Hardware and later with Lowe's for 15 years until his recent illness. Mr. Harvey was a member of the Panama Canal Society and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patti Harvey; his son, Sam Harvey; his sister, Gail (Charlie) Layson; his aunt, Lois Thomas; his niece, Stacey Peyton; and his two nephews, Dan McConaughey and Jody Avery; his in-laws, Randy (Ellen) Gangle, Margaret (Jules) Damiani, Tom (Mary Lou) Gangle, Jim (Judy) Gangle, and Barbara (David) Sherer; several nieces and nephews including special nieces, Heather Sherer and Nikki Sherer Burns.
