A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home at 1:00pm. Pastor Frederick Thomas, Jr. to officiate with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12pm until 1pm.
Ida Herring, “Mother Ida,” a residence of Dothan, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. She was 76 years old.
Ida Herring was born in Louisville, AL, the daughter of the late Alvin and Annie Herring. She was a loving woman that always made time for others, ensured all were fed, and was blessed with her presence. She worked in the Textile Industry for Van Heusen until retirement. Ida’s hobbies included cooking, baking, ceramic creation, painting, sewing, reading the Bible, praying, and watching her favorite football teams Dallas Cowboys and the best college football team in Alabama and the country, “Roll Tide.” Her organizations comprised Bertha B OES Chapter No. 45. Ladies Aid Missionary Society No.17, and Nannie H. Burrough. Ida is a member of the Church of Purpose located in Dothan, AL.
Those who mourn her: Three children, daughter Teresa (Kenneth) Marshall, Felicia A. Parker, and Chamese (Marlon) Blackmon. Five grandchildren, Jeffery, Derrick, and Schela Whitehead. Shamariah and Myah Blackmon. Seven great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Deleon, Sana Blackmon, Isaiah Delon, Haley Conner, Brooklyn Whitehead, Makensley Riley, and Ma’Riyah Edwards.
Three siblings preceded her in death, Lillie Lampley, Alvin Herring, and Willie Herring. Seven brothers and sisters, Vera McRae, Elouise Rumph, Jimmy Herring (Tina), Jessie Herring, Roy (Vurnell) Herring, Gussie (Willie) Avery, Annie B. Herring. Host of nieces and nephews, family, and friends.
