ABBEVILLE. . .Imogene Shipes Stinson, a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday morning, April 12, 2018, at her home. She was 82.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2018, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Ryan Johnson and Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A. M. Saturday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Edwin Cemetery Fund, c/o Larry Ryals, 302 Oak Drive, Abbeville, AL 36310.


            Mrs. Stinson was born and reared in Barbour County, near Blue Springs, daughter of the late Coy Levi Shipes and Evie Mozelle Wilkinson Shipes. She moved to Abbeville in 1955 where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Stinson was retired from WestPoint Stevens as a Supervisor. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Marcus Stinson, a son, Allen Wayne Stinson, a daughter-in-law, Krista Mize, five sisters, Frances Kennedy, Mazelle Tew, Ellen Harden, Annie Belle Daughtry and Mary Ann Worley, and two brothers, J. V. Shipes and Coy O. Shipes.


            Surviving relatives include a son, James Harry Stinson, Abbeville; two grandchildren, James Allen Stinson and Christopher Sean Stinson, two great-grandchildren, Shanna Gayle Stinson and Lena Briar; two sisters, Betty Jean Hagler (Gene), Blue Springs; and Lela Golden, Newville; a brother, Don Shipes, Dothan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Faye Daughtry, Sueanne Tabb (Bill), Charles Harden, and Don Stinson (Ruby Grace); several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Bruce Downs, Kenneth Tew, Ray Baldwin, Tim Worley, Bubby Worley and Edward Worley.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Hospice, especially Cynthia and Shanti, for the loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Stinson during her illness.
