ABBEVILLE. . .Ina Claire Gamble Clark, of Abbeville, died early Tuesday evening, May 14, 2024, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility where she had resided since April 2022. She was 92.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, May 16, 2024, in the First Baptist Church of Abbeville with Darden Kirby and Reverend Vernon Hogans officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Pioneer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 P.M. Thursday in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the W. M. U. of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville, P.O. Box 606, Abbeville, AL 36310 or to the Abbeville Memorial Library, 301 Kirkland Street, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Ina, a lifelong resident of Abbeville, graduated from Abbeville High School in 1950 as Valedictorian of her class. She was also drum major of the Abbeville High School marching band. She attended Troy Teachers College (now Troy University) for three years prior to returning to Abbeville and marrying Alex B. Clark, Jr. They were married sixty-five years, prior to his death in 2019. In her earlier years, Ina served as church secretary of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville as well as Dental Receptionist for the late Dr. Cary Carmichael, DMD. She was a lifelong active member of First Baptist Church and served as Sunday School teacher, GA Director, WMU Circle chairman and was on numerous committees through the years. Her retirement years were spent traveling, being Nina to her grandchildren, and working in her immaculate yard among her plants and flowers.
The last of her generation in her family, she was preceded in death by her husband, her son, William Hunter “Will” Clark in 2020, her parents, Mattie Hill Berry Gamble and Robert Bunyan Gamble, Sr., all of her siblings: Janelle, Jean, Glynn, Robert and Marthese, many cousins, in laws, and other family members as well as her best friends, all of whom she dearly missed.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Jeanie Jarrett, Headland; grandchildren, Hillary Clayton Sisson (Travis), Katie Jarrett and Jennifer Cheryl McCoy (Justin); great-grandchildren, Alex Clark Sisson, Micah Sisson, Hannah Claire Sisson, Charlie Sisson and Dominic Woodham; two special nieces, Marcia Turner Mortimer (Stan), and Cheryl Jean Snipes Sleadd (James) and their families also survive.
Serving as active pallbearers will be James Sleadd, George Singer, Alex Sisson, Micah Sisson, Dominic Woodham and Trey Loiselle. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Peterson, Derek Peterson, Kent Killebrew, Alison Killebrew Suddarth,Terry Harris, David White, Larry Pitchford and Cleta Harpe.
Jeanie and the family wish to thank Dr. Richard Bendinger and the entire staff of the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation for the loving care they provided during her stay. Many special friendships were formed with staff members and they know who they are. Any staff member that is able to attend the service is invited to sit with the family.
