IRIS GRADDY WILLIAMS


 


DOTHAN. . . Iris Whittle Graddy Williams, a resident of Tacoma Street, Dothan, died Monday morning, February 27, 2012, at her home. She was 89.



            Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. James B. Sanders III officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. 



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, “ In Christ Name”, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, AL  36301 or to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Memorial Chairperson, P.O. Box 2123, Dothan, AL  36302.



            Mrs. Williams was born and reared in Lowndes County, Alabama, daughter of the late Otto Lafayette Whittle and Leora Roberts Whittle. She moved to Dothan in 1956.  Mrs. Williams was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Calvary Baptist Church and was also a member of the Dothan Service League and the Women’s Literary Club.  She was retired from the Farmer’s Home Administration in Houston County after thirty-five years of employment. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas B. Graddy, Sr. and Milton Williams; a son in law, John Payne Wilson; a sister, Eleanor Bender, and a brother, Z. D. Whittle.



            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Iris Anne Graddy Wilson, Dothan; Susan Graddy Crist and husband Bill, Marietta, GA; a son, Thomas B. (Tommy) Graddy, Jr. and wife, Penny, Ashford, AL; five grandchildren, Sallie Ford and husband, Cliff; Katy Graddy, Jana Graddy, Whitt Wilson and wife, Amy Catherine, Abbey Sheehan and husband, Mike; six great-grandchildren, Susanna, Payne and Willa Sheehan, Ava and John Payne Wilson, and Kayla Ford;  two step sons, Scott Williams, Birmingham; Mark Williams, Dothan; a brother, W. O. (Bill) Whittle and wife, Mary Helen, Hayneville, AL.
