Irma Raye Crews of Dothan, and formerly of Samson, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. She was 90. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Minister Harry O. Adkison officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Samson, directing.
Mrs. Crews was born in Tuscaloosa, AL on June 18, 1928, to the late Charles and Coratee Welcher Shanner. On June 1st, 1946, she married Fred F. Crews from Samson, AL and they were married for fifty-one years until his death in 1998. During their marriage, she helped her husband in his medical practice and raised three children. She was an active member of various hospital organizations, civic clubs, garden clubs, and bowling leagues. Her family will always remember playing cards with her around the dining room table, putting up vegetables with her in the summer, having wonderful fish fry’s at her house and listening to her tell stories about her childhood. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren and loved them very much. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred Crews; daughter, Connie Crews; sister, Geraldine Frost; and two brothers, Charles Shanner, Jr., and Robert Lee Shanner.
She is survived by two sons, Marc Crews (Cindy) of Dothan and Fred Crews, Jr. (Annette) of Pensacola; daughter, Norma Raye Crews of Tallahassee, FL; three grandchildren, Eric Crews of Dothan, Connie Money of Pensacola, FL, and Ethan Crews of Dothan; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her twin sister, Faye Curtis (Cecil) of Phoenix City, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
