Mr. J.C. Gillis of Samson, Alabama passed away Friday, September 19, 2014.  He was 75.


Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Sam Totten officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 6 until 8 p.m.


Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.


Mr. Gillis was born August 9, 1939, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Karo and Margaret Grimes Gillis.  He was an avid Alabama “Roll Tide” fan and enjoyed a variety of sports, but he had a passion for golf.


In addition to his parents, a brother, James Gillis, preceded him in death.


Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mabel Grimes Gillis; one son, Mike (Shannon) Gillis; two grandchildren: Chris and Hannah Gillis all of Samson; one brother, Bobby (Pat) Gillis of Madisonville, TN; two sisters: Wanda (Eddie) Mooney of Seminary, MS and Bonnie (Sonny) Beasley of Chunchula, AL; two special sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Neal) Pridgen and Annette Gillis Frazer all of Samson; several special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other extended family and friends.


Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Gillis, Stan Gillis, Steve Gillis, Shane Gillis, Jeff Lowery and David McGowan.
