DOTHAN...Jack Carter Franklin, a resident of Dothan, died late Saturday morning, January 15, 2022, in a Dothan hospital. He was 84.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 19, 2022, in the Trinity Baptist Church, Headland, with Reverend Dan Sheppard and Reverend Ron Baker officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow at 12:30 P.M. Wednesday in the Pope Cemetery in Sneads, Florida. Social distancing and mask guidelines will be observed. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, P. O. Box 146, Headland, AL 36345.
Mr. Franklin was born in Oak Park, Illinois and was reared in Hart, Michigan. At an early age, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. Mr. Franklin retired from the Air Force with rank of Technical Sergeant after twenty years service. After retirement from military, he was employed by the Florida Department of Corrections in Sneads, Florida. Mr. Franklin was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and a former member of the Masonic Order. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved and enjoyed his family, friends and church. Mr. Franklin was an avid Michigan football fan. In earlier years, he played football, baseball and softball and was a sports enthusiast. Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his father, William Carter Franklin, Jr., his mother, Mary Ann Barcik Powers, his first wife and mother of his children, Linda Cloud Franklin, a sister, Joyce Lombard, two brothers, Daniel Richard Franklin and James Daniel Franklin, and a step-son, Don Sellers.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Sellers Franklin; a daughter, Susan McDaniel (Gary), Sneads, FL; two sons, Jeff Franklin (Johanna), Blairsville, GA; David Franklin (Tracy), Crawfordville, FL; his special adopted step-son, John Charles Wilson, Dothan; five step-children, Tommy Sellers (Judy), Ronnie Sellers (Lisa), Jane McManus (Don), Susan Arnold (Raleigh) and Deborah Beaty; ten grandchildren, Jenna McDaniel, Allison McDaniel, Mallory McDaniel, Holly Zahra, Hillary Gerber (Scotty), Morgan Afton, Santana Afton, Michael Franklin (fiance’, Jordan), Matthew Franklin (Dee), Austin Franklin and Dallas Beckett; four great-grandchildren, Carter, Braelyn, Kennedy and Parker; ten step-grandchildren, two step-greatgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
