O.M. “Daddy Jack” Jones made his transition from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Thursday, April 7, 2016. He had recently celebrated his 109th birthday on February 25, 2016. Because of his age and unbelievable spirit, he had become a local celebrity and icon.


Daddy Jack was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved and was loved by his family and his many, many friends.


Born in 1907, Mr. Orlyster M. Jones, “Jack” as he is known in Samson, has lived in Geneva County all his life. He was born one of seven children. He has only one living sibling, Mr. Loftin Jones of Ocean Springs, MS.


Before her death, Elizabeth (Cooper) and Jack were married almost sixty-eight years and raised three children. He has always attended the First Baptist Church of Samson. He and his wife raised their three children to also be active in the church. Mr. Jack is a lifetime honorary deacon of the First Baptist Church of Samson.


He is survived by his children, Jackie Brunson, Enterprise, Forrest Jones (Carol Ann), Dothan, and Sheila Warren (Billy), Enterprise; he was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Brunson, Emmett Brunson, Eric Brunson (Rachael), Jeff Jones (Georgie), Jennifer Watson (Terry), Harrison Warren (Ivy), and Forrest Warren (Maria); twelve great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016, in the First Baptist Church in Samson with Rev. Sam Totten, Rev. Wade Lewis and Minister Harry O. Adkison officiating. A private burial will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in the Ganer Community with Rev. Phillip Barnes officiating and Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and one great grandson. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, April 9, 2016, beginning at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Samson, 8 West Main Street, Samson, AL 36477.


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at Wiregrass Nursing Home in Geneva, Ala. for their wonderful care and love for Daddy Jack. We thank you for each act of kindness and love shown to our Dad. A special thank you to Dr. Arnold and his girls, who cared for our Dad before and after being in the nursing home.
